Safety Day 2023 Scavenger Hunt

Congratulations to the Thoi-Townsend team for winning the scavenger hunt with a total of 54/70 points!

Scavenger Hunt Rules

The Safety Scavenger Hunt is open 3:45-5:45 PM on September 22. All Safety Day attendees are allowed to participate but only one submission is allowed per two-lab team. Duplicate submissions will be deleted.

There are 70 total clues and 2 tiebreakers. You do not have to answer every question, but the more you answer, the more likely you are to win.

The answers to all clues are hidden in areas that are typically accessible to the general public and are indoors unless otherwise specified. The CSSC is not responsible for any damaged, missing, or inaccessible clues. Any labs found tampering with the clues are immediately disqualified – be a good sport!

The team that completes the most correct items within the time window wins. In the event of a tie, tiebreaker questions will be evaluated at the discretion of the CSSC eboard. Tiebreaker questions are described on the submission site. If a tie still holds after the tiebreaker questions, the team which completed the survey fastest is the winner.

The prize is a free pizza lunch from the Chemistry department (and bragging rights)! The winning team will be announced at our Happy Hour event 6-8 PM. If a free agent wins instead of a lab team, they’ll be paired with the top-ranking lab team for the pizza prize.

Scavenger Hunt Teams

The CSSC has divided all the labs into pairings to make it easier for smaller labs to compete. There are at least 15 people per team and a mix of theory/experimental groups. We strongly encourage collaboration within your team to complete this large scavenger hunt! The Chemistry department website has a list of students in each lab to facilitate communication.

If you’re not affiliated with one of our lab teams (for example: first year grad student, staff member, or undergraduate not in a lab), you can still do the scavenger hunt. Be sure to leave your name and contact info on the submission site.

Clues

Secret code clue card
Secret code clue card

Some clues ask for a five-digit “secret code” which is hidden at the location described by the clue. Other items ask for a specific answer, such as a room number. Room numbers do not include the building, i.e. Remsen SB1 would be entered as just “SB1”.

Before you leave lab…

Scan the QR code on your lab’s emergency flowchart to complete these items.
