KSAC committee rules and procedures, title and track descriptions, tenure regulations, and appointment and promotion processes for faculty of all ranks and statuses are enumerated in one unified document, the KSAC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.

There are 18 elected members of KSAC who serve three-year terms (with exceptions in the first year of the council). In the KSAC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures, Appendix E describes the initial terms of elected KSAC members. KSAC also includes appointed members.

There are 18 elected positions in KSAC: 

• 12 full professors who serve on the Tenure & Promotion Committee 
• 3 full professors who serve at-large on other KSAC committees and subcommittees 
• 3 teaching or research professors who serve at-large on other KSAC committees and subcommittees 

The voting period for KSAC members was in late April 2026. The next nomination period will be in Spring 2027.

KSAC emerged from the work of the Core Academic Matters Committee, which was charged with developing proposals for restructuring key areas of faculty governance and oversight in the Krieger School to succeed the Homewood Academic Council.

For the purposes of establishing KSAC, all responsibilities, powers, and duties of the former Homewood Academic Council that pertain to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, whether or not they are explicitly enumerated in the KSAC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures, passed to KSAC, unless they have been explicitly assigned to another body.

KSAC is administered by the Krieger School Faculty Affairs Office.
