The Krieger School of Arts and Sciences comprise more than 50 academic departments, programs, centers, and institutes, defined as follows:
- Department is the basic academic administrative unit.
- Program refers to an interdisciplinary and non-departmental academic unit that offers its own courses.
- Centers prioritize research and scholarship but do not usually offer courses or degrees.
- Institute designates a unit with a clearly articulated research and academic project, often with public-facing activities.
