The Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts presents our fourth annual Donald Bentley Memorial Lecture located at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Dr, Baltimore, MD 21218.

Join us for an ebullient evening of contemporary African American art and House Music, presented by the Johns Hopkins University’s Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts. This year we have special guest Franklin Sirmans, director of the Perez Art Museum of Miami. After his lecture, we will present a conversation with local Baltimore art fixture Lesley King Hammond and abstractionist painter Terry Thompson, whose works are being featured. Each year, the Center invites distinguished intellectuals and arts practitioners to address topical, historical, or philosophical issues connecting the work of the arts to the renewal and revitalization of civic life. This lecture series is the Billie Holiday Project’s capstone annual public lecture to honor the life of one of Baltimore’s promising young leaders who lost his life to violence.”

We have a program that has three parts:

5:45 p.m. – Auditorium doors open

6:15-7 p.m. – Presentation on contemporary African American Art by Franklin Sirmans, Director, Pérez Art Museum Miami
