Setting up a LAN Connection

The default ethernet connection method for departmental computers is DHCP through JHARS:
Go to http://jhars.nts.jhu.edu, log in using JHED, then request a dynamic internal IP address. That way, you do not need to worry any of the settings below.

If your computer still use statis IP address (not recommended), then use the following settings:

IP address: 128.220.x.x Use the IP address you are given.
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 128.220.x.1 Here the “x” is the same as the subnet (third number) in the IP address.
DNS server: 10.200.1.1, 10.200.2.2
WINS server: 10.15.70.74, 10.181.31.73

To change LAN connection from Windows XP PC:

  1. Right click “My Network Places” icon to desktop, choose “Properties”; or double click “Network Connections” icon in Control panel.
  2. Right click “Local Area Connection”, choose “Properties”
  3. Highlight “Internet Protocol” and click “Properties”
  4. Input information. To configure WINS server, click Advanced.
  5. Click OK.
