Jackson’s latest manuscript, Shelter: A Black Tale of Homeland, Baltimore (Greywolf, 344 p.). Shelter is a probing portrait of the misunderstood city of Baltimore by a returning native son. In resonant prose, Jackson ably conveys the feuding aspirations and unease of the Black middle class in Baltimore. The result is a stirring reflection on the meaning of home.
