Now that you have arrived, please take the time to complete the following tasks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2880\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">0. Get your office assignment and keys<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2880\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get your office assignment from Norma Berry and Brian Shriver<\/li><li>Arrange with Brian to obtain keys and key card access as listed below. Please note that each physical key requested (here, 3) requires a $10 deposit in cash. <ul><li>A building key to Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy<\/li><li>Your office key<\/li><li>Key card access to the loading dock on the 0th floor of Bloomberg<\/li><li>A key to the laboratory in Bloomberg 020<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2881\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">1. Take the orientation and safety courses<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2881\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Take any new employee orientation courses as outlined or required in your hiring materials\/orientations<\/li><li>Use the JHU learning portal (currently LearnShare) accessible through my.jh.edu to sign up for additional safety training courses.  Please include (you can search for the titles)<ul><li>Chemical Waste management <\/li><li>Fire, Electrical, Radiation, and Chemical Safety<\/li><li>Laboratory Safety Introductory Course<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2882\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">2. Get or request appropriate safety equipment for working in the lab<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2882\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The laboratory has several sets of basic safety goggles and a few flame-resistant laboratory coats.  You may share one of the clean unlabeled ones as needed (be sure to wipe down goggles or drop coats in the lab laundry when done), or you may choose one and label it with your name for repeated use (there are coat hooks and pockets for glasses near the laboratory entrance).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these basic items of personal protection equipment (PPE), you may consider purchasing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A pair of steel or carbon-toed shoes (particularly relevant for those traveling to\/working in underground laboratories, and required for LNGS)<\/li><li>Prescription safety glasses (if desired)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The lab also maintains a supply of nitrile gloves that suffice for most lab tasks.  <strong>IMPORTANT NOTE:<\/strong> When working with chemicals, ALWAYS check the MSDS to determine what type of gloves are appropriate.  Nitrile is versatile but is not suitable for everything.  Be safe!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specialty PPE for handling liquid cryogens (LN) and participating in cleanroom activities is available in the laboratory. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2883\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">3. Join the lab mailing list and shared Google drive<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2883\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Go to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lists.johnshopkins.edu\/sympa\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/lists.johnshopkins.edu\/sympa\/<\/a><\/li><li>Search for &#8220;spellerlab-lab@lists.johnshopkins.edu&#8221; and request to join mailing the mailing list<\/li><li>You should get a response when the moderator approves the request. If you do not receive any notification within 2 days, ping the moderator.<\/li><li>Contact one of the group members to share access to the lab Google Drive and calendars.  Having a Gmail account available for use works best. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2884\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">4. Join the HEP-Ex group mailing list<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2884\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Contact Andrei Gritsan or one of the other HEP-Ex PIs to be added to the group&#8217;s mailing list for seminars and general information.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2885\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">5. Join the JHU Ph&amp;A Slack workspace and the #spellerlab channel<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2885\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Join the departmental Slack workspace at<a href=\"http:\/\/jhu-pha.slack.com\"> jhu-pha.slack.com<\/a><\/li><li>Have someone in the group invite you to #spellerlab.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-2886\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">6. Become a &#8220;user&#8221; of the group website<\/h2><div id=\"ac-2886\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Go to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sites.krieger.jhu.edu\/danielle-speller\/wp-admin\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/sites.krieger.jhu.edu\/danielle-speller\/wp-admin<\/a><\/li><li>Attempt to log in.
