In this seminar, Preeti will be talking about the importance of well-being during graduate school and her experience of the transition she made from academia to industry.
Presenter Bio: Preeti spent her childhood in Bangalore, India, and moved to Kolkata for high school. After a BSc. degree in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, and a one-year research stint at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, she entered the CBI Graduate Program at Johns Hopkins in 2014. In 2018, she made the transition to the biotech industry, working in the Genetic Sciences Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific, San Francisco, California. She then worked at a startup, GenapSys, developing new Next-Generation Sequencing technology. For the past two years, she has been working at the California State Department of Public Health, Genetic Disease Laboratory, screening for genetic diseases in newborns. Outside of work, Preeti plays keyboards and bass guitar in Indian fusion music bands. She also enjoys exploring hiking trails and food in the Bay Area.
