Additional policy: We will do a few in-class exit tickets before the end of this class. The main purpose is for collecting general feedback from students and for in-class exercise. But students can request for a substitution of 25% of midterm score by the best score from the exit tickets at the time of turning in the exit tickets in class. (Updated on 3/26/2018, 7pm)
CLASS PLAN (see below for the new class plan)
(4/6/2018, 2:30pm) We have discussed identical particles this Friday. I plan to discuss advanced topics of 2nd quantization and introduce relativistic quantum mechanics next week (week of 4/9).
(4/16/2018,12:30pm) Plan of this week:
Monday: Dirac equations in general dimensions and chirality operator in even space-time dimensions. Even # of components and spinors. Plane wave solutions to free Dirac equations. Negative energy solutions, vacuum and Dirac sea, particle and hole excitations;
Wednesday: Schoredinger equation under EM field (non-relativistic), gauge invariance, AB phase.
Thursday (problem session): Dirac equation under EM field and fine structure.
Friday and next week: We may start scattering theory following the books by Townsend (~ undergraduate level) and Sakurai (~ graduate level).
